Migrate to ImageKit

If you are using another image or video optimization and delivery service like Cloudinary, Imgix, or Akamai, you can easily migrate to ImageKit without changing the URLs in your application. ImageKit provides tools and features that make the migration process seamless and easy. These capabilities have helped companies migrate in days instead of months with zero downtime.

URL rewriters are configured on URL endpoint under the "Advanced settings" tab. They rewrite the incoming URL to the format that ImageKit understands. This allows you to keep the existing URLs in your application and still use ImageKit for media optimization, transformation, and delivery.

For example, if you configure Cloudinary URL rewriter to the endpoint, ImageKit will accept transformations written in Cloudinary's syntax for all URLs on this endpoint.

For complex migration scenarios where you need custom URL transformation logic beyond what predefined URL rewriters offer, you can use URL Endpoint Functions. This feature allows you to write custom JavaScript code that executes on incoming requests at the URL endpoint level.

URL Endpoint Functions are ideal for migrations where:

• Your legacy system uses custom URL patterns that don't match standard platforms
• You need complex parameter extraction or path rewrites
• You have multi-tenant or multi-brand scenarios with different URL structures
• You can't change URLs in your application (embedded in content, printed materials, etc.)

Important: URL Endpoint Functions run first, followed by URL rewriters (if configured). This means you can use both together—the function pre-processes the URL, then the rewriter handles platform-specific transformations.
